The Psychology Department at the Â?Babes BolyaiÂ? University of Cluj has the leading role in the field of fundamental and applied research in psychology in Romania. Since 1922, when Fl. Stefanescu Goanga, a former student of Wundt, initiated a psychology school and an institute of experimental psychology in Cluj, outstanding personalities like Jean Piaget and P. Fraisse have developed active contacts with Romanian researchers. In spite of the handicap caused by the communist regime, the regrouped forces of senior researchers together with enthusiastic young ones, have succeeded to revive this tradition. Nowadays, Psychology Department has been visited by over 50 senior scientists, most of them professors of prestigious universities like those of Birmingham and Sunderland (England), Malaga (Spain), Torino and Bologna (Italy), Zwolle, Tilburg and Amsterdam (The Netherlands), Chambery, Grenoble and Paris (Sorbone) (France), Giessen (Germany).
