ABSTRACT

The present study examined the factorial validity and reliability (Ωw) of the Life Regard Index - Revised (Debats, 1998) in two Romanian convenience samples from the general population (N1= 870, N2= 800). The factorial structure of the LRI-R conceptualized as a third-order factor including framework and fulfillment as second-order factors that comprise each positive and negative items grouped in first-order factors was tested against six competitive models in both samples. Although this third-order factorial structure was empirically supported, the results revealed that there were two competitive models that presented a better fit compared to it. The first model included a second-order factor indicated by the positive and negative factors as first-order factors. The second one included the correlation between the positive and negative factors as first-order factors. The results obtained in both samples suggest the influence of the negative and positive response scores on the factorial validity of the LRI-R. The value of the Ωw reliability coefficient of the sub-scales as well as the whole instrument was above .70. The results of the present study have implications by highlighting the need to conduct further research on the psychometric properties of the LRI-R, at least in Romanian context.
