ABSTRACT

To be effective, people's social behavior need the belief of control the external environment. People use primary control mechanism to make changes in the external environment; when primary control fails, they shift to secondary control mechanism to change themselves and regain control over the environment. When both control strategies are insuccesful people became depressed and their behavior is disadaptative. During the transition, because of difficulty to control the social environment, people by eastern European countries are using illusory control strategy, based on invalid beliefs as a defense mechanism. The present study is focused on the evolution of people's control behavior in Romania after 1990.
