ABSTRACT

A brief review of most important five well-known hereditary behavioral diseases that involve major brain dysfunction is presented. One of the principal goal is to show that genes, the fundamental units of heredity, are major determinants of human conduct, ranging from variations in temperament to susceptibility to certain form of mental illness. It is described the molecular bases that are essential for understanding how single genes influence behavior in the case of some "ingle trait" inheritance like: Phenylketonuria, Huntington Disease, Lesch-Nyhan Syndrom, Fragil-X Mental Retardation and Alzheimer's Disease all of them being transmitted in Mendelian fashion.
