THE HUMAN MIND FACING CONTRADICTIONS: A METAPHOR-ENRICHED APPROACH

Written by Iulia BOBAILA on . Posted in Special issue: Interpreting, Guest Editor: Izabella BADIU, Volume XV, Nr. 2

ABSTRACT

The aim of our paper is to analyse the fruitful ways the human mind can deal with contradictory statements by reshuffling its logical presuppositions and accepting a refreshing world view. The backbone of our research are Eugenio Coseriu’s integral linguistics and Stéphane Lupasco’s oppositional logic. As an application of the insights provided by these two theoretical approaches, we will analyse some of the most relevant metaphors related to space and time in Octavio Paz’s poetic work, with an emphasis on the symbolic recovery of meaning during the figurative language processing.
